Bangladesh name squad for Australia series, Disha Biswas and Habiba Islam earn maiden ODI call-ups
Cricknation Update: Bangladesh Women (Photo by Dan Istitene/) Bangladesh have named a 16-member squad for their historic first bilateral ODI series against Australia, with pace-bowling allrounder Disha Biswas and Habiba Islam Pinky earning maiden ODI call-ups.
The squad was announced on October 1, 2026, ahead of the team’s departure for Australia on October 3. Nigar Sultana Joty will ctain the side, with Nahida Akter named as vice-ctain. The three-match series is scheduled for October 9, 11 and 14, 2026, with all matches to be played at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
The squad also includes the return of Murshida Khatun, who last represented Bangladesh during the West Indies tour in January 2025, and Dilara Akter, whose most recent ODI pearance came at the Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan in ril 2025. Who are the two players earning their maiden ODI call-ups? Disha Biswas has come into the team as a fast bowling all-rounder.
She previously ctained the Bangladesh Under-19 side but is yet to make her senior international debut, making this ODI call-up her first opportunity at the highest level of the 50-over format. Habiba Islam Pinky has one prior international pearance to her name, a T20I against India in May 2024. This team selection is his first selection for the Bangladesh ODI team, giving him an opportunity to add to his international experience in a different format.
What is the significance of this series for Bangladesh women’s cricket? This tour marks the first time Bangladesh women have featured in a bilateral ODI series on Australian soil, making it a notable milestone for the programme. The three matches at Allan Border Field in Brisbane will give Bangladesh exposure to Australian conditions ahead of future global events.
