Goalkeeper-batsman Amir Jangoo has been included in the squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India West Indies as a replacement for Jewel Andrew, who injured his finger during the third ODI against India on Saturday.
Andrew has not been ruled out of the T20I series and “will continue to be monitored and assessed by the medical team,” a CWI statement said. 19-year-old Andrew was sent off for a first-ball duck in the first ODI match between India and the West Indies and returned to the starting XI for the third game after missing the second. Andrew injured his finger when he took the hook to send Naman Dhir back into the ring for cover and shortly afterwards he had to go to hospital for scans.
Luckily for him and Antilles, no fracture was found. However, he failed to keep up with the West Indies’ successful chase. The 29-year-old Jangoo is considered more of a long-format player but has featured in seven T20Is for the West Indies since making his international debut in December 2024.
His record with the bat in these games is poor: 163 runs at a strike rate of 120.74. His strike rate across 34 T20s is lower at 104.25, but he contributed to Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ run to the CPL 2026 title in September, finishing with 213 runs, although his strike rate remained well below average: 107.57. His most important innings in CPL 2026 came in the title clash when he scored 57 in 34 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes as the Falcons won by eight wickets against the Jamaica Kingsmen.
Jangoo was in good form in the ODIs against India, scoring 58, 114 and 67 to finish third in the all-team run-scoring list, his tally of 239 trailing only that of Shubman Gill (334) and Shai Hope (278). The first India vs West Indies T20I will be played in Lucknow on Tuesday, followed by matches in Ranchi (October 9), Indore (October 11), Hyderabad (October 14) and Bengaluru (October 17).
