As part of extensive plans drawn up earlier this year by the Indian think tank, which includes selectors and India head coach Gautam Gambhir, it was revealed that Bumrah’s workload will be managed so that he is fit to take part in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home early next year and the 2027 ODI World Cup to be played in Africa in October and November next year. Bumrah last took part in the Asian Games in January, where India won the gold medal. He is currently doing his routine training at home in Ahmedabad and is expected to visit the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bangalore for fitness exercises before leaving for New Zealand.
Pant had suffered a side strain in the last Irani Cup while struggling against the rest of India and playing a sweep in the first innings. He was subsequently ruled out of the first two unofficial Tests against New Zealand A. He is expected to play the third unofficial test in Lincoln from November 7th to 10th.
Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Anshul Kamboj are also likely to play the third unofficial Test. Akash Deep was back in the Indian Test team after showing his form and fitness for Bengal in the Irani Cup and recently in the first round of the Ranji Trophy.
Kamboj also returned to the Test team after making his debut for Manchester in July 2025. Mohammed Siraj and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy will add depth to the attack. There was no place for Manav Suthar, who took 16 wickets in four innings in Sri Lanka.
India have picked two spin bowling all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to accompany Kuldeep Yadav for the Test tour of New Zealand. After missing the Test series in Sri Lanka due to a toe injury, B Sai Sudharsan returned to the team, possibly as a reserve batsman. He had recently returned to action in the four-day and one-day series against Australia A in Puducherry.
While regular ctain Gill will lead India in the first three ODIs, Shreyas Iyer will take the lead in the last two matches. Like Gill, Rahul and Kamboj will also feature in only the first three ODIs before intensifying their preparation for the Test series. Jadeja, who was part of the ODI squad against the West Indies, was ruled out.
Wicket-keeper Kumar Kushagra, who has been in top form across all formats this year, was called up by India for the first time after being included in the squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs. Auqib Nabi, who made his international debut in the second ODI against West Indies in Guwahati, was selected for the last two ODIs only. Arshdeep Singh was also back in the ODI squad after being named only in the T20I squad for the home series against West Indies.
He last peared in an ODI against England at Lord’s in July, the only game he played in the three-match series.
