That they had it so easy was largely thanks to Rashid, who has now managed six ODIs in a row – since August – in which he took at least three wickets, becoming the second bowler after Pakistan’s Umar Gul to achieve this feat. “The spin bowling was excellent all week,” Pybus said after the final.
“We have fantastic spinners. Rashid was phenomenal, but he is not alone. He was supported by a very diverse but very competent bowling unit and they ended up taking each other’s wickets, which is one of the great things. “Rahmat, who recently took over as Test ctain in Afghanistan, has now led them to seven consecutive ODI wins.
“[Rahmat] is wonderful as Ctain. He is a very calm and confident player. He leads with authority.
He is very inclusive. He has a dynamic team,” said Pybus. “I think as ctain it is equally important to take on that responsibility with the bat.
We’ve seen it since the Ireland tour [in August]. His performance in the [one-off] Test match [against Bangladesh] didn’t get the recognition it deserved, but he was outstanding with his hundred and a half centuries. He has won seven ODIs on the trot.
“It won’t always be so pleasant, but he’s off to a very good start and I have absolutely no doubt that he will continue to lead the team in a very positive and inspiring way.” Pybus stressed that Afghanistan can only improve in all formats by playing against higher-ranked teams more regularly. “We have great players. We have to build a great team,” he said.
“The side is an evolving team. We don’t have the same opportunities as some of the other full member teams when it comes to consistently competing against top teams, which I think is really key to our development as a team. “We still have to come out there and do a really good job against the teams we play.
Bangladesh are a very dangerous team and Zimbabwe may have struggled to beat [Afghanistan] but in the first game of this series, Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh and put in a very complete performance. That’s why I don’t want to take anything away from our guys.” Playing in the UAE comes with some concerns, including heat and humidity. During the Tri-Series match, players were seen struggling during the day, especially during the finals where some of them squatted after a short run.
Fazalhaq Farooqi scores two powerplay hits, Afghanistan v Zimbabwe, Tri-Series Final, Sharjah, October 23, 2026 “Thanks to the boys for coping with the heat and humidity. They were outstanding this week,” Pybus said. “We would like to thank the backroom team for the work they have done to ensure all the boys are fit and have a full squad to choose from.
I think it’s really positive. This is evidence of their conditioning work. “I just think the team is in good she.
We have had a positive phase in Ireland. We want to build a team that can adt to different conditions. We need to build a team that can perform in any conditions in the world and I think we’re starting to have some depth in the team and guys who are coming forward and performing. “Afghanistan has achieved several notable individual achievements in the past two weeks in the United Arab Emirates.
Rahmat and Sediqullah Atal scored centuries in the Test match while fast bowlers Mohammad Saleem and Yameen Ahmadzai made long runs. Then Rashid and Ibrahim showed outstanding performances in the tri-series. “The guys are really stuck in their jobs.
They don’t take responsibility for other players coming in to pick up the plays where they didn’t do what they need to do in their role,” Pybus said. “So that’s really pleasing. Just the consistency across the board, from seam bowling to bowling in Abu Dhabi to bowling here on flat wickets, I think we’ve been pretty good.
I’m looking forward to the T20 boys and what we have in the team there. We have competition for places. ” Rashid Khan was the standout star of Afghanistan’s bowling performance throughout the UAE ODI tri-series, but coach Richard Pybus wants other bowlers to be recognized too.
