Labrum tear rules Nahid Rana out of West Indies Tests, South Africa tour in doubt (Twitter) Bangladesh pace bowler Nahid Rana has been ruled out of the two-match home Test series against the West Indies after a labrum tear was confirmed during a specialist examination in Australia. The diagnosis also raises serious doubts about his participation in the two-Test tour of South Africa scheduled for November 15. A BCB official confirmed the injury after Rana was sent abroad for a second opinion.
Prior to this overseas assessment, team management recognized that the pacer was suffering from back and pelvic weakness and the committee decided to seek specialist advice in Australia, which led to the identification of the labral tear. “Yes, a labral tear was diagnosed. In Australia he has already received an injection and started his rehabilitation program.
He is scheduled to bowl on Friday (October 30). In that case, if he does not recover in time before the second Test (against South Africa), he is likely to return to competitive cricket with the white-ball series against South Africa,” the official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. This latest injury is a further blow to the coach, who has been constantly struggling to return to action after suffering a second-degree lateral strain during Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe in July.
The setback had already ruled him out of the Australia tour, the Asian Games and the one-off Test against Afghanistan. His comeback plans were further thwarted when he sustained a gluteus muscle injury during rehabilitation, forcing him to miss the UAE’s tri-series against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. Rana was not included in the 15-man squad named by Bangladesh for the opening Test in Mirpur, it was announced on Friday, and he will now not feature in the entire home series.
The two Tests against the West Indies are scheduled to begin on October 28. After hosting the West Indies for two Tests from October 28, Bangladesh is scheduled to travel to South Africa for two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. The tour is scheduled to begin on November 15th.
