Sophia Dunkley (Credit: Ashley Allen/) The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 mini-auction was held on Wednesday, October 28, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Kochi. A total of 27 spots were offered in the five franchises, with 150 players vying to fill them. Australia’s Sophie Molineux became the most expensive pick of the day, going for INR 1.10 crore to UP Warriorz.

However, not all of the big names found buyers. Several well-known players have not received offers despite their qualifications, leaving them out of a WPL contract before the 2027 season. Here’s a look at three notable stars who didn’t make it to the auction.

Uma Chetry Uma Chetry (Source: Twitter) Uma Chetry is a 24-year-old goalkeeper-batsman who previously represented UP Warriorz in the WPL. Her name came up quite early in the process on October 28, but no franchise made an offer at her base price of INR 30 lakh, so she was not sold. Chetry has represented India in one ODI and seven T20Is so far and is considered a specialist in making cable gloves.

She was part of the Indian team that won the ODI World Cup last year, which makes it all the more surprising that she wasn’t sold. Chetry also has the distinction of being the first cricketer from Assam, male or female, to represent India at the international level. Sophia Dunkley Sophia Dunkley.

While Dunkley’s availability during the WPL season was cited as a potential problem for the franchises, she went into the auction with good credentials, having been the third-highest earner in The Hundred this year. His ability to bat anywhere in the top seven adds flexibility but no team has decided to open the bid for the English bat.

On Wednesday, UP Warriorz held the largest remaining prize at INR 3.65 crore and many expected them to go for the Sri Lanka title due to their match-winning skills with bat and ball.

However, representatives of the five franchises remained indifferent when Athatthhu’s name was mentioned and she was not sold. The left-hander could still take part in the 2027 WPL season as a substitute, but for now she will be dispointed to have missed out on the auction.
