Aquib Nabi (Source: BCCI/X) Jammu and Kashmir seam bowler Auqib Nabi is expected to replace Prasidh Krishna in India’s ODI squad for the first three matches against New Zealand. The Karnataka man is still recovering from a hamstring injury he sustained during the home series against West Indies. His absence comes at a crucial time for the team in its preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. With 16 wickets in nine matches, Prasidh was India’s leading wicket-taker in ODIs in 2026 and has emerged as an important cog in India’s ODI team.
As News 18 reports, Prasidh’s presence in the team is considered more important for the two-match Test series that follows the ODI leg of the series. A BCCI source said Prasidh will undergo match simulation and fitness tests at the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru after which his clearance can be determined. “Prasidh is recovering well and he has scheduled his match simulation and fitness test on November 1 and 2 at the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Regardless, the team management and the national selection committee are of the opinion that Prasidh should be fully ready for the Tests where he will be needed more than the ODIs,” a BCCI source told reporters, quoted by News 18. Nabi is already in New Zealand as part of the Indian A team, which will take on New Zealand A in three matches over four days. He was one of the standout performers in the first game, taking three wickets in both innings of the game and scoring an important 38 off 63 balls in the second innings.
However, the match ended in a draw with India A just one wicket less, but the umpires called off the match due to poor light. Nabi had made his ODI debut for India in the second match against the West Indies in Guwahati and had already been picked for the fourth and fifth matches of the New Zealand series. He was part of a secondary squad, with the Test regulars rested in the final two games.
T20I ctain Shreyas Iyer will lead the team in these two matches in the absence of skipper Shubman Gill, who will take charge of the first three matches of the series.
