We achieved the victories despite difficult conditions and a demanding travel schedule that required the team to travel to several countries.

Middle-order batsman Tilak Varma highlighted the role of the Indian bowling unit in securing these victories, especially during the periods when the opponents peared to have posted strong totals. Varma spoke about the team’s performance on Thursday, October 29. He stressed that the Indian bowlers performed well throughout the series and managed to contain New Zealand despite the high scoring of the matches.

The fourth T20I will take place at Eden Park in Auckland, where a full stadium is expected, and Varma believes bowling unity will continue to be crucial to India’s chances of extending their winning streak. “In the last two games, we played very well as a bowling unit, especially in the death overs and middle overs,” Varma was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. The batsman particularly highlighted the performance of Prince Yadav, whose yorkers performance in death overs impressed the team management.

Varma noted that Yadav’s ability to deliver the yorkers when the team needs them most, especially in the latter stages of an innings, is a positive development for India’s bowling attack. This consistency in delivering key deliveries was a key factor in India’s success throughout the series. “When you see Prince Yadav in particular executing yorkers when the team needs them, especially in assassinations.

This is a positive sign for us. “And I think they will (be important) in the next few games too. “If you see in the last game, the boundaries were really small, the square side,” Varma added.

Varma acknowledged that Eden Park has different dimensions to Christchurch, where Indian batters had beaten New Zealand bowlers in an earlier game to help India secure an unassailable lead in the series. However, he stressed that the quality of the pitch was more important than the physical nature of the pitch in determining results. He believes India’s proach will remain consistent regardless of location-specific factors.

“And in this game I think the straighter the (boundaries) are going to be on the shorter side. (That’s what) I heard. I never played, but I heard.

Again, those crucial overs, bowling at the death, executing those yorkers will be really crucial,” he added. “If the wicket is good, the ground doesn’t matter,” Varma said. How does the team deal with the busy schedule?

The Shreyas Iyer-led Indian T20I team has faced challenges since its tour of Ireland in July and the current series provides an opportunity to build momentum. The team had very little time to rest and constantly traveled across several countries including the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe and January. Despite these obstacles, Varma stressed that the team cannot use the demanding schedule as an excuse for poor performance.

“As a T20 team we played in a lot of countries because we went to Ireland, Great Britain and then Zimbabwe and then came back in January. Everything worked continuously. In addition, you had to constantly get used to the time difference.

If you look at January, the difference from January is quite clear. But we are at such a level that we can no longer give excuses,” Varma said. “We are at the highest level, we have to set standards.

Because the young people who come will see us. So we can’t give excuses,” he added.
