The only bright spot with the bat was Shashank Singh, who made 40 runs off 11 balls in an pearance that ultimately failed to make up for the top-flight struggles that preceded him. At the top of the order, Nitish Rana contributed 19 and Rahul Tripathi just 9, and both men were unable to build the kind of platform India needed. Further down the line, ctain Krunal Pandya and Rahul Tewatia came and went without making any significant contributions, leaving Singh to carry the scoring burden almost single-handedly.
How did Pakistan’s opening games defuse the fightback? Openers Khawaja Nafay and Abbas Afridi made the chase a formality in the first two overs. Nafay hit 41 from 12 balls while Afridi was even more destructive, making 35 from just 8 balls, and the pair combined for an opening stand of 59 runs from 13 balls that effectively decided the game.
Ctain Pandya repelled Afridi’s attack in the first over of the chase, conceding five sixes as Pakistan proached a position from which defeat was almost unimaginable. Abdul Samad and Irfan Khan then completed the formalities without any real alarm and brought Pakistan home with supplies left over. This result pushed India to the bottom of Group C while Pakistan moved to the top.
Pakistan had previously lost to the United Arab Emirates by a one-wicket margin in their opening Group C match, making the margin and nature of this victory particularly significant for their qualification prospects. What does India have to do to stay in the tournament? The Hong Kong International Sixes 2026 will take place over three days from October 30 to November 1, 2026, with 12 nations divided into four groups of three.
Within each group, each team plays against the other two once and only the group winner advances to the semi-finals. The final is scheduled for November 1, 2026. Group C includes India, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
After losing to Pakistan and finishing bottom of the group, India will have to beat UAE by a wide margin in their final group elimination on October 31, 2026.
