Darren Lehmann, Northamptonshire’s head coach, said Bean “has been on our radar for some time, so I’m delighted to secure him a long-term contract where he can hopefully continue to develop and become an excellent addition to the team.” Yorkshire Cricket CEO Gavin Hamilton said the club respected his ambition to pursue first-team cricket elsewhere.

“We have had very honest discussions with Fin over the last year and during that time he has consistently advocated for regular cricket, as he should,” Hamilton said. “Fin was a brilliant player for Yorkshire and also a great person in the dressing room. We would have been hpy if he had fulfilled the rest of his contract, but we understand and respect his ambition.

“It is never easy for players to leave, particularly those who have come through our academy, but we are proud of the role Yorkshire has played in his development and wish him every success for the future.” Bean said: “I’m really excited to be joining Northamptonshire. I can’t wait to get started and I can’t wait to show the fans what I can do. I can see from Blast’s success and performances in the County Championship that this is a great group to be a part of and I hope we can continue that next season.

“It’s an exciting time for me. Under the guidance of Darren and the rest of the coaching staff, I’m looking forward to developing my game and making a big contribution.” Finlay Bean continued his innings at 102 not out, Yorkshire v Sussex, County Championship, Division One, Headingley, 26 ril 2026
