Australia v New Zealand 2nd Test, Day 1, at WACA, Perth, Thursday 20 November 1997 Sediqullah Atal plays defensively, Afghanistan v Bangladesh, Test only, Abu Dhabi, 4th Day, 12 October 2026 Lunch Afghanistan 240 and 203 for 4 (Atal 66*, Ismat 0*, Ebadot 3-40) needs 276 more runs to beat Bangladesh 346 and batting at 372 for 7 (Litton 102, Shanto 82, Mushfiqur 81, Zia 2-86) Sediqullah Atal held off Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi, although the visitors went to lunch and had something to show for it. Just before the break, Ebadot Hossain removed heavyweight Ikram Alikhil, breaking the partnership for the fourth wicket. A lot of the credit goes to Litton Das for the excellent catch on the leg side.
Litton has now become the first wicketkeeper to make nine dismissals and score a century and a fifty in the game. Atal remained unbeaten on 66 off 216 balls, a highly unusual knock from the usually rampant southpaw. He added 66 runs for the fourth wicket with Alikhil making 33.
They also came together under unusual circumstances. Afghanistan were literally dealt a blow right from the start when Hasan Mahmud hit Hashmatullah Shahidi with a throw in the third session of the morning. Shahidi, who was completing a single, fell immediately and had to be rescued from the field.
Alikhil opened with a nice cover to Mehidy Hasan Miraz before Atal bowled the reverse to the same bowler in the next over. Bangladesh started to get desperate, especially when Ebadot hit Alikhil in the pads. Although the bowler gave the signal to leave, Bangladesh accepted the message and were promptly turned away.
Atal quickly reached his fifty off 166 balls and remained focused on keeping Bangladesh at bay. Soon after, he hit Taijul for his first six, going straight over the bowler’s head. Alikhil then hit three fours, all without spin, before Atal hit Taijul for his second six, again over the bowler’s head.
Later in the same period, Atal survived a near-wicket after losing control of the bat as it circled him and landed just behind the stumps. In the next game, Ebadot hit Atal on the elbow before delivering the decisive blow to Alikhil before lunch. Afghanistan had presented a similar situation on the fourth day.
After Bangladesh declared 372 for 7, Afghanistan had to face at least 50 overs on the fourth day. However, Abdul Malik was eliminated in the second round, surpassing Ebadot for the second time in the game. Shahidullah hit four boundaries before another big shot attempt cost him his wicket.
Mahmud had him caught for 19. Shortly after the tea break, Tanzid dropped Hasan Rahmat on the 16th. It was a simple first-slip chance that ultimately went all the way to the boundary.
Twenty minutes later, Rahmat and Sediqullah got into a mix-up in midfield, but Ebadot was unable to properly throw the ball into midfield as Rahmat safely returned to the striker’s side. After these two close games, Rahmat and Atal showed more patience and concentration. They went unrestricted for long stretches but maintained a solid defensive game.
Rahmat became only the sixth cricketer to score a century and fifty on his prison debut. Atal kept his bat straight for most of the afternoon and evening while supporting Rahmat, who however fell short of the stumps on the third day. Rahmat prevailed over Ebadot, much to the delight of Bangladesh.
The catch also earned Litton his eighth dismissal of the game – which is Bangladesh’s wicketkeeping record. Litton Das has now become the first wicketkeeper to take nine deliveries and score a century and a fifty in the game. Sediqullah Atal plays defensively, Afghanistan v Bangladesh, only Test, Abu Dhabi, Day 4, October 12, 2026. On this short length delivery and just outside the offside, he attempts a hasty pull and succumbs to the short ball trick, is pulled straight to square leg and Zia takes a spectacular diving catch and Saleem loved it; totally excited about the celebration. He definitely deserves this wicket!
Afghanistan finally achieves a breakthrough at lunchtime; The tactics change, the goalkeeper comes into play and Tanzid, who has fought so well so far, has to go and will not get a fast hundred for Bangladesh in the Tests. A shorter, crisp throw that nibbled slightly on the sixth line of the off-stump and he tried a slight edge which the keeper caught beautifully! Yamin gets his first and Afghanistan gets their third wicket!
On a length shot and a shot from it, he took a step forward and pushed it in the air to get it to short cover and the fielder took a clean catch, Rahmat caught it on his throat and Yamin was absolutely thrilled! A soft, hasty shot release could be a lack of concentration as he only tried to control his shot at the last moment. Training just keeps getting better for the home team! It was a clever delivery, a lovely leg-break convert from a wide line and he launched an adventurous inside-out attack, gaining an advantage to slip past the defender and having to make the long walk back to the dressing room; Bangladesh will be released!
Afghanistan continues to make great progress! Tremendous fightback. That’s the beauty of Test cricket; Things can change so quickly. Broken tree stumps, what a sight for Yamin!
He outwitted him with a sharp blow in the middle and had no idea how to deal with it. When the bat fell the stumps were already churned; it is huge. Breakthrough, the veteran goes there without disturbing the scorers. Great delivery to the new batsman!
Afghanistan is back with a bang this session! Wow, the emotion, that goal meant everything to Yamin. This is a phenomenal catch! throws a bouncer whiff down the middle and he reared up so quickly he picked it up and went for the hook, but Yamin quickly moved left and took a fabulous diving catch into deep square!
This is exactly what the Afghans were looking for, closer to the tree stumps! Officially into the tail now. Close and break the stumps!
Short contact and back into the shadows around the line as he sat deep in his crease and tried to cut him weakly, not quite confident in defense and ended up cutting him at the stumps. Nicely positioned and Afghanistan continues to score goals. They plied enormous pressure in the last 30 minutes and were rewarded for it; It’s a huge gate.
The standing guard also helps. Destroy him with a yorker! Once again excellent set-up! I played a couple of shorter ones, challenged his outside edge and finished with a perfectly curled yorker that completely messed up the stumps!
Great delivery and Saleem loved every moment of the short ball down leg, playing the swing and failing to connect. The wicketkeeper asks for the catch but the umpire remains unmoved. Rahmat Shah sends him up.
Ultra Edge is coming, hello! As the ball flies past the gloves there is a slight spike. The original decision is reversed and the team on the field is pumped. The credit goes to the goalkeeper who managed to convince his ctain to reconsider the decision.
Awesome stuff from Afghanistan! Slower ball does the trick! Suggested seam movement and longer ball, throw to middle leg and Ebadot awkwardly places the entire face of the bat inside the line of the ball, a massive G between the bat and only manages to connect the outside part of the bat, sending a regulation catch to the point fielder who lunges forward and puts it in a pocket with sure hands.

A fuller touch outside the sixth off-stump channel, a bit more bounce off the pitch and Abdul Malik throws everything to play the wide-cover drive but ends up only managing to kiss the outside part of the bat and LKD dives full-stretch to his right side to devour it in a single attempt. The bouncy ball is enough and Shahidullah has to go!
At the end, play a no-hitter against the short pitch, moving his bat away from his body and bringing the leading edge toward the deep, fine leg area. Hasan Mahmud sprints and les forward to hold on, a brilliant effort from deep. Ebadot makes the breakthrough and presents his characteristic salute celebration!
Ebadot Hossain salutes after the dismissal of Shahidullah, Afghanistan vs Bangladesh, only Test, Day 2, Abu Dhabi, October 10, 2026. This is a beautiful piece of bowling from Miraz that completely outclassed Shahidi! He floated a lengthy ball over the stumps, abruptly left the field with extra bounce, moved away as Shahidi stepped forward to play that ball over the line, missing the line and the length entirely. The batsman turns and rushes to tuck his bat into the crease, but LKD is behind the stumps in a flash, grabs the peach of a delivery and cuts through the bails in a flash.
knock him out with a pearl! Ebadot finally gets the right line and length. Complete and start in the canal.

Length in the sixth channel of the off-stump and it moves away late. Yamin’s foot gets stuck in the concrete and he hits it very tentatively. This seems to be transferred to the goalkeeper, even if he doesn’t share this opinion.
Well, bad luck for the Afghanistan review. Clear spike when the ball is off the bat and Mahmud has a five-wicket haul on the day! This time it was gone, and Afghanistan was bundled out for 240!

Ebadot finishes with four points and Bangladesh takes a big lead in the first round! Ebadot Hossain completes Afghanistan innings, Afghanistan vs Bangladesh, Test only, Abu Dhabi, Day 3, October 11, 2026, it’s straight forward and Saleem has something to show for his hard work! Hit the track outside.
Islam tackles it, but does not show the necessary conviction in trying to achieve it with six people. He doesn’t last either and the ball goes to Rahmat to be caught at deep square leg. The short ball trick works and Bangladesh loses their first wicket!
One hasty shot and Tanzid can’t believe what he’s done! Around the wicket, he hits the deck hard and gets a slight inward movement from a wide line, he sits deep in the crease and presses it, giving Shahidullah an easy catch on the slip line and he has to take the long route back to the pavilion. Excellent fiery bowling; Saleem and Yamin withstood pressure from both sides. Yamin Ahmadzai struck at the start of the second session, Afghanistan v Bangladesh, only Test, Abu Dhabi, Day 3, October 11, 2026. A change of perspective brings a change in fortunes!
Forced full length by the outside hitter. Mominul floats over, but does so with minimal footwork. A clear lead and Atal, standing from the first slip, rushes to the right and takes advantage of a great opportunity.
And there will be lunch on the third day too! Qais silenced the opposition, myself included, around the wicket and bowls a gem from a broken leg, lots of flight and he came back wild, squeezing through the gate as Shanto came forward and couldn’t take the rip and the bite, went past the inside edge and rattled the stumps, great throw and stunning strike out of the gate! He fought really hard and it was a big blow!
A little relief and respite for Afghanistan as we proach the end of the game. Around the wicket, drawn short and angled inwards, he tries to lift it up and over the keeper’s head and ends up over his head with a top edge that Hashmat calmly caught at the first slip. An opportunity to pick a few quick wickets; That should motivate them.
Zia also had a little more bounce. Over the wicket, hit just around the line, take an energetic shot and give the keeper a lead, and Shanto signals the call! They’ve been waiting for Litton Das ton and feel like they’ve had enough on set. Clever change of length, he plays a little fuller and drifts at first glance, then pulls away late and beats his striker defense: LBW assessed, but he wants to take his chance and is sent up. Tracking the ball suggests it lands on the line, hits the line, and hits to the top of center and outside the off. This is another morale-boosting blow for Afghanistan, who will be looking for more as they head to the stumps.
How often do you see this HPen in Test cricket? The wickets fall in the final moments as dusk falls. Yamin Ahmadzai struck early in the second session, Afghanistan vs Bangladesh, only Test, Abu Dhabi, Day 3, October 11, 2026. A change in perspective brings a change in fortune! Forced full length by the outside hitter.

The short ball trick works and Bangladesh loses their first wicket! Over the wicket, beaten just around the line, he throws a full-blooded shot, giving the keeper an advantage, and Shanto signals the declaration! They were waiting for Litton Das ton and feel they have enough on the board Some relief and respite for Afghanistan as we near the close of play.
Around the wicket, dragged short and slanted in at off, tries to lift it up and over the keeper’s head and ends up getting a top-edge that has been snaffled calmly by Hashmat at first slip, caught over his head. An opportunity to pick a few quick wickets; this should galvanize them. Zia got extra bounce as well Cunning change of length, bowls it a tad fuller and it drifts in by the looks of it and then moves away late, beating his forward defence: adjudged lbw but he wants to try his luck and has sent upstairs.
Ball tracking says landing in line, impact in line and crashing top of middle and off and another mood-lifting strike for Afghanistan who will be looking for more as we head towards stumps. How often you see that hpen in Test cricket? Wickets falling in the dying moments when the twilight starts to take over Qais silences the naysayers including me, around the wicket and bowls a gem of a legbreak, lots of flight and it came back extravagantly, sneaking through the gate as Shanto came forward and couldn’t handle the rip and bite, went past the inside edge and rattled the stumps, magnificent delivery and staggering knock by the ctain!
He really fought hard and it was a grinding knock! goes straight up, and Saleem has something to show for his toil! Bashed into the track outside off.
Islam has a swipe at it but does not show the requisite conviction in trying to hit it for six. Does not keep it down either, and the ball spoons up for Rahmat to snare at deep square leg. Short-ball ploy works, and Bangladesh lose their first wicket!
change in angle brings about a change in fortunes! Pushed across the batter outside off on a full length. Mominul wafts at it but does so with minimal footwork.
A healthy edge and Atal, stood at first slip, tumbles to his right to gobble up a sharp chance. And that will also be lunch on day three! Rushed stroke and Tanzid cannot believe what he has done!
