(Photo Source: Twitter) BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia on Monday (October 12) dismissed reports that the opening ODI of the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka has been shifted from Delhi to Ahmedabad. The match, scheduled for December 13, has been awarded to Delhi as per usual guidelines and no changes have been made to the venue.

Earlier media reports had suggested that the match should be shifted to Ahmedabad, citing construction work at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as the reason. According to reports, Ahmedabad, where the series finale was scheduled to take place on December 19, would host the opening match instead. Saikia responded directly to these complaints and explained the planning process.

“Reports suggesting that the ODI match between India and Sri Lanka scheduled in Delhi may be shifted to Ahmedabad are not true. The BCCI has not taken any such decision. We request media colleagues to please refer to BCCI official communications for updates on the schedule.

Furthermore, it must be reiterated that bilateral matches are mainly awarded under a standard policy,” Saikia was quoted as saying by India Today. BCCI clarifies official schedule and allocation policy. The BCCI secretary’s statement highlights the importance of relying on official channels for schedule updates. Bilateral matches between India and visiting teams follow a set allocation framework that determines which venues host which matches.

This framework guarantees consistency and fairness in the distribution of games between different cities. Saikia’s clarification underlines that the BCCI follows a transparent and standardized proach in allocating venues for bilateral series, thereby preventing ad-hoc changes based on speculation or unconfirmed reports. The Sri Lanka tour is scheduled to take place from December 13 to 27, 2026 and will include three ODIs and three T20Is.

The ODI venues are Delhi on December 13, Bengaluru for the second match and Ahmedabad on December 19. The T20I matches will be played in Rajkot, Cuttack and Pune. With the opening match confirmed in Delhi, the schedule remains as originally planned and no further changes in venue allocation are expected.
