India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with the final taking place on Saturday, October 3, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
Dhir is preparing for a no-win clash after the hosts secured the series. Ravindra Jadeja, the experienced left-arm orthodox spinner and all-rounder, accompanied the young cricketer on his international debut. Dhir spoke about the mentorship he received and the practical advice that helped him develop his bowling craft.
“I have spoken to Jaddu bhai. He gave me simple bowling plans according to the batsman. For example, I can bowl offensively if I need to get wickets or if I need to keep the batsman in check then I can have simple lines to bowl to them.
I always think about batting no matter what game it is,” Dhir said in the pre-match press conference. In the second ODI, Dhir recorded figures of 0/38 in 6.1 overs as West Indies scored 405/7. The young all-rounder’s entry into international cricket came in a decent batting line-up and he was keen to develop his skills further.
Dhir explained how he plies Jadeja’s principles in his cricket, focusing on simplicity and flexibility rather than trying complex variations. “It was good that we won the game and were looking for a huge overall result. As far as bowling was concerned, I had a great strength in playing right-handed, so I used that.
I tried to play with simple plans and see how it would go and not try to do anything on my own,” he added.
