England name squad for ODI tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Mason Crane earns recall
Cricknation Update: England Cricket (Photo by Charlie Crowhurst/ for Surrey CCC) England have announced a 16-player squad for the ODI tri-series scheduled from October 18 to 31 in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
Harry Brook will take charge of the team as England prepare to face Pakistan and Sri Lanka in seven matches in the tournament format. The squad includes several players returning from injury and an uncped leg spinner who has been recalled after consistent domestic performances. Marcus North, England Men’s National Selector, outlined the squad composition and the reasoning behind key selections.
Adil Rashid returns to the squad following a hand injury that ruled him out of England’s recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, which England won 2-1. Sam Curran also comes back into the squad after recovering from a groin injury. However, Jos Buttler will miss the team due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the second ODI against Sri Lanka.
“The tri-series in Pakistan provides another valuable opportunity for our ODI squad to test themselves against quality opposition in different conditions. “Adil Rashid and Sam Curran have returned to the squad following their respective injuries, while Jofra Archer has been rested to manage his workload after a busy summer,” North said in a media release from the ECB. “Mason Crane has been performing consistently for Glamorgan in both formats during the summer.
He’s an experienced, high-class leg-spinner who thoroughly deserves another opportunity at international level,” he added. Mason Crane has been recalled after consistent good performances for Glamorgan. Crane, a Glamorgan leg spinner, last represented England in the fifth Ashes Test in 2018 in Sydney. He has two IT20 pearances to his name from 2017.
His inclusion marks a return to the international setup after a period away from the England squad, with his recent form for Glamorgan across both formats earning him another chance at ODI level. Adil Rashid’s return comes after a hand injury kept him sidelined during England’s ODI series against Sri Lanka earlier in the year. Sam Curran has also recovered from his back injury and made his place in the team.
Both players bring experience to the middle order and bowling attack as England prepare for the challenge of the tri-series. With Rashid and Curran returning from injury, both uncped Sussex players James Coles and Henry Crocombe have also been included in the squad. Both players featured in England’s white-ball squads during the summer of 2026, and their selection reflects their development within the domestic system.
Jofra Archer has been rested from the tri-series to manage his workload following a busy summer schedule. Jos Buttler will miss the Metro Bank ODI series against Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury. The team balances experience with emerging talent as England prepare for the challenges ahead in Pakistan.
