The tournament is scheduled to run from October 4 to November 21, 2027, across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in a 14-team format comprising 57 matches. Yuvraj, who was the Player of the Tournament during India’s 2011 ODI World Cup win, has been vocal about the team’s preparation strategy for the upcoming tournament. According to his assessment, arriving early in the host country will give the team enough time to adt to the local conditions and prepare for the competition.

Yuvraj said, the team should be in South Africa a month before the World Cup for preparation. This recommendation reflects his experience of winning the World Cup and understanding the demands of international tournaments played in unfamiliar conditions. Beyond the timing of arrival, Yuvraj has stressed the importance of consistency in squad selection and providing players with sufficient game time before the tournament.

He highlighted that the modern cricket calendar presents challenges for preparation, with fewer 50-over matches available compared to Twenty20 fixtures. Yuvraj explained that regardless of squad size, every player needs adequate opportunities to build match fitness and form ahead of a World Cup. “In my opinion, there shouldn’t be too much shuffling because I think you need to prepare the team like a year before you go to the World Cup, because you need experience in every position.

Whether it’s the top order, middle, whoever your numbers four, five and six are, they need to have game time. Don’t think too far ahead because if you are thinking straight away about winning the World Cup then you are putting too much pressure on yourself. Just go with the flow and make sure your 16 to 20 people are ready to play.

Before the World Cup, the team should be there in South Africa a month before to prepare. And looking at this team, I definitely believe they have the potential to win the World Cup,” Yuvraj said while speaking to JioStar after the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 schedule launch.
