Rohit Sharma reveals he bought a phone with his first cricket earnings

Cricknation Update: Rohit Sharma reveals that he bought a phone with his first cricket earnings (Source: SonyLIV) Legendary cricketer Rohit Sharma, who now earns in crores annually, has revealed that he spent his first cricket earnings on a mobile phone by saving his daily food allowance for a while so that he could keep in touch with his family while traveling for cricket during his initial days in the game.

Rohit explained that during his early cricket days he received a daily allowance for meals but chose not to spend it on food. He set the money aside with the specific aim of buying a phone, because frequent travel meant he was regularly out of contact with his family, which troubled him greatly. He also revealed that when he received his first cheque, he handed over the entire amount to his family.

“I bought a phone with my first earnings. At that time, we used to get money for daily meals. But I used to save that money instead of spending it on food.

We had to travel a lot. Because of this I was not able to stay in touch with my family. That used to make me feel very bad,” Rohit said via Sony LIV.

“At that time, everyone had a phone, but I didn’t. Because of this I was not able to talk to people outside. In such a situation, I felt that buying a phone would be the right investment.

So I saved the money and bought a phone. That was my first investment. After that, when I got my first cheque, I gave the entire amount to my family,” said the Nagpur-born.

The account offers a candid look at the financial constraints Rohit navigated during the early phase of his cricket career, when staying connected with family required deliberate sacrifice. The India batsman made this revelation on Family Full House with Rohit Sharma, his television hosting debut, which premiered on September 19, 2026. The show is based on the globally successful Family Feud format, produced by Fremantle, and airs on Saturdays and Sundays.
