Ravichandran Smrana scored 67 runs, South Zone vs Central Zone, Duleep Trophy Final, Day 4, COE Ground, Sep 14, 2025 Jammu & Kashmir 2 for 21 (Iqbal 12*, Choudhary 1-3, Akash Deep 1-9) trailing Rest of India 237 (Smrana 68, Mohan 60, Sunil 3-36, Nasser 3-59) 216 The bowlers took ten out of the 12 wickets that fell on the opening day of the Irani Cup on the lush green surface of Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar. Sunil Kumar, Omar Nazir Mir and Lone Nasir helped Jammu and Kashmir bowl out Rest of India for 237 before Akash Deep and Mukesh Choudhary took two wickets each in seven overs to give the team victory. Shikhar Mohan and Ravichandran Smaran scored half-centuries, while Sarfaraz Khan, the most reliable batsman on the first day, scored 45 runs.

After ong to bowl, J&K found early success when Sanant Sangwan’s tentativeness made him feather an edge to the wicketkeeper. But it seemed as if the hosts were letting the favorable conditions go to waste. Mir and Sunil took a little time to get their lines right.

They kept switching angles every over. Mir’s struggle extended to his front foot landing where it shouldn’t, bowling three no-balls in his first 19 deliveries. That would be a theme throughout the day.

J&K bowled 14 extras, 12 of them front-foot no-balls; Mir bowled seven of them. Yet even when he got his length right, the swing and seam movement made it difficult for the batsmen. Like when Nasser bowled his second legal ball – he started his spell with a no-ball.

He got a length ball outside off to rear up while swinging away, and Sudip Kumar Gharami edged it straight to second slip. Umar Nazir Mir takes the wicket of Shivam Dubey, Mumbai vs Jammu & Kashmir, Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, Day 1, Ranji Trophy, Jan 23, 2025 Shikhar Mohan, who opened the batting for ROI, was spot on with length decisions for a large part of his innings. He was hpy to let the ball come to him and play the waiting game, and yet did not let the scoreboard stall.

By the time he completed his half-century in 78 balls, he had hit nine fours. Sunil, though, kept putting pressure on J&K. The left-arm seamer got the ball to move both ways and often had Mohan fishing at deliveries he could have easily left.

At the other end, ROI vice-ctain Sarfaraz was a picture of confidence. He seldom poked at deliveries outside off, played as late as he could and had impeccable judgement of deliveries to leave. He hit five fours in his stay and built a 76-run partnership with Mohan, offering the 21-year-old a word of advice whenever he needed it.

However, soon after lunch, Mohan was doubly betrayed by Nasser and a promising innings was brought to a halt. When at the top of his bowling mark, Nasir asked deep square leg to move to his left, and then dished out a full and wide ball outside off. Mohan started chasing him without any footwork and was caught from behind.

Ten minutes before the break, he was relieved using DRS after being given out LBW. At 106 for 2 in 31 overs, the opening session belonged to RoI. But once Mohan collsed after resuming, the script was flipped.

Rishabh Pant was fidgety for most of his 36-ball stay in the middle. He was warned for treading on the danger area having faced only two deliveries. He stood a foot or two outside the crease and then charged towards the bowler, promng the umpires to talk to him.

After giving the charge, there were several ups and downs and mistakes before Mir was dispatched to short cover-point. It was an over when the same bowler strangled Sarfaraz’s leg. ROI lost 4 wickets for 22 runs at the 11-over stage in the middle session, giving J&K a chance to make a comeback.

Only a rearguard from Smaran helped them breach the 200-run mark. He was on 13 off 30 when Akash Deep walked out to bat at No. 9 and raced to 50 off 69 balls.

He added 39 for the eighth wicket with Akash Deep and then contributed 38 off 32 balls in a 43-run ninth-wicket stand with Mukesh Choudhary that took 45 balls. With about half an hour to survive, J&K had to tweak their opening combination. Shubham Khajuria went off for about ten minutes but RoI were bowled out in seven minutes after he came on.

Choudhary then drew first blood when he had Shubham Pundir caught behind upon review. Replays shows his bat grazing his front pad while being close to the ball, a decision that did not please him. Mir’s stay as a nightwatch was as painful as it was brief with Akash Deep’s sharp short ball accounting for him.

Despite being 216 behind, J&K would be quietly hpy about their opening day shenanigans in Srinagar. Umar Nazir Mir peals for Shivam Dube’s wicket, Mumbai vs Jammu and Kashmir, Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, day 1, Ranji Trophy, January 23, 2025 Early success after lunch for Jammu & Kashmir! And the disciplined Mohan has been lulled into a false shot.

At the top of his bowling mark, Nasir just signaled to deep square leg to move to his left. Parhs played into the mind of Mohan, who was expecting a short ball and was hit in the crease. Nasir then bowls it full and very wide outside off.

Mohan could have left it all day long. He is deep in the crease, merely leans back and throws his hands at it away from the body for the drive. Only ends up nicking it behind.

Luckily for J&K and Nasir, he has his front foot behind the line Nicked off! And J&K get a brief scare as the umpire only raises the finger belatedly. Sunil pitches it just outside the fourth stump and swings it.

Sangwan pushes at it away from the body only because it is angled in towards off. But in the end he reached it with very little footwork and gave an outside edge to Wadhawan. J&K celebrate because of the obvious noise but turned back to see the batter unmoved.

Until the umpire raised his finger. Early strike for the hosts, just what they would have wanted after winning the toss Catching practice for second slip and Gharami is out chely! Nasir lands this on a length outside off, 124.5kph, and gets it to swing away.

Gharami hangs back and tries to dismember him by punching him. Gets a thick outside edge and Samad makes no mistake. A little bit of extra bounce as well helped the bowler.

First first-class wicket for Nasser and what a lovely way to get on the board!! Dropped down the leg side and taken with one hand by the keeper. Sarfaraz falls after looking set for a big score.

But wait, the umpires converge to confirm if the catch was taken cleanly. The first replay from a behind-the-keeper angle shows Wadhawan took it well, even if he lofted the ball. So Sarfaraz departs.

He started hitting this short-of-length ball, which was going in and out of the leg, his bottom hand was almost missing the bat. Bonus wicket for J&K, really got him!! Sliced to short cover.

Pant falls after a frustrating few deliveries in this over. The guy was kept close, which is unusual, but it works for J&J. He decides to advance down the pitch again, and slices hard at this length delivery on middle by opening the face of the bat.

But it’s hit aerially, and perfectly lands into the hands of the close-in fielder. Nazir lands two massive blows on RoI A flying catch from Samad at wide slip ends Smaran’s stay! Full and outside off, given the marauding mood Smaran was in, he went for the drive through the off side.

Got a thick outside edge and Samad laced it to his left to end a brilliant innings. End of a fruitful partnership for the rest of India Jaffa! Jain is stunned and is stood looking at the off stump that is pegged back.

Lotra tosses it up and lands it on off. It lands and straightens massively. Jain prods forward to drive it through off and ends up playing well inside the line of the ball because of the dip and turn.

Then sees the ball strike off pole. Rest of India crumble further A dipping yorker! Is there an inside edge?

A celebrpeal from Sunil but J&K think a lot before ong for the review. He floats it full and it swings it to hit Suthar on his front toe that is adjacent to the stumps. The only question is whether there is bat involved.

Bat hits pad, not the ball. Eyes on ball-tracking, which says it will hit the foot. Sunil has deserved a lot more wickets with his bowling today, but here is his second for now.

Suthar massively dispointed with that and drags himself off as it is tea on day one. Sharp catch by Samad and he makes up for the drop from a few overs ago. Tossed just outside off, extra flight which Akash Deep could not resist.

Looks to go big over the off side but gets a thick outside edge. It goes quickly to the left of first slip where Samad moves swiftly to pouch. Ends of the 39-run stand bowled him!!

Choudhary departs first ball after drinks. Sunil has his third wicket. He bowls this on a length, swinging this into the left-hand batter.

Choudhary played a big innings by swinging his bat almost blindly. The ball smashed into the stumps, though gone!! Taken one-handed by the keeper tumbling down the leg side.

Sarfaraz falls after looking set for a big score. But wait, the umpires come to confirm whether the catch has been taken cleanly or not. The first replay from behind-the-keeper angles shows Wadhawan did take it well, even as he juggled the ball.

So Sarfaraz departs. He went jabbing at this short-of-a-length ball seaming in and finishing outside leg, with his bottom hand nearly coming off the bat. Bonus wicket for J&K, really got him!!

Sliced to short cover. Pant fell after some dispointing balls in this over. The man was placed close in, which is unusual, but it works for J&K.

He decides to advance down the pitch again, and slices hard at this length delivery on middle by opening the face of the bat. But it is hit aerially, and lands squarely in the hands of the close-in fielder. Nazir lands two massive blows on RoI Nicked off!

But in the end he reached it with very little footwork and gave an outside edge to Wadhawan. J&K celebrated due to the parent noise, but turned back to see the batsman unmoving. Until the umpire raised his finger.

Early strike for the hosts, just what they would have wanted after winning the toss A dipping yorker! Is there an inside edge? A celebration from Sunil but J&K think too much before ONG goes for the review.
