In his first season in first-class cricket after coming through the Pakistan under-19 system, he amassed 405 runs in seven matches. The transition from shorter formats to Test cricket requires special preparation and Minhas shared his views on how to deal with these demands.
According to the 21-year-old, mental strength plays an important role when it comes to adting to different game formats. “The format change largely depends on your mindset. If you are mentally strong, you can take on different challenges.
Your routine and hard work remain the same but you have to mentally prepare for the demands of each format and train accordingly,” said Minhas while speaking to former Pakistani Salman Butt on Straight Drive with Salman Butt. How does Arafat Minhas perceive the mental aspect of the format change? Looking at this all-rounder illustrates a basic principle of modern cricket: While the technical fundamentals remain the same across all formats, the psychological framework differs significantly.
Each format requires strong tactical awareness, tempo decisions and game awareness. Minhas stressed that consistent training and disciplined preparation lay the foundation, but ultimately mental preparation will determine how effectively a player makes the transition from the compressed intensity of T20 cricket, the balanced demands of ODI cricket and the prolonged concentration required in Test cricket. Sameer Minhas, Arafat’s younger brother, received his first Test c for Pakistan as part of the team selection for this series.
The inclusion of both brothers in the Test squad reflects the team management’s confidence in their ability to contribute to Pakistan’s World Test Championship campaign. Their selection marks a notable achievement for the Minhas family in Pakistan cricket.
