Reddy had missed the series opener as he was part of the recently concluded ODI series and India decided not to jeopardize his fitness by asking him to play back-to-back matches immediately after. Dinesh Karthik assessed Reddy’s performance and potential in the series and highlighted the all-rounder’s development into a key player for India.
According to Karthik, Reddy’s role in the middle was carefully managed to enable him to grow in confidence and responsibility. “In T20 cricket, lack of pace below a certain point is achievable on such flat pitches. I think he is an improving bowler.
His confidence shows in every game he plays. They tried the new ball, they probably realized it wasn’t what they expected,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz. Reddy’s performance in the third T20I showed his increasing role in the team.
He scored 21 runs with the bat and bowled figures of 1 for 19 in two overs. His bowling in the death overs was promising as Reddy hit excellent yorkers to restrict the opposition. Accuracy and all-round potential Karthik believes Reddy’s development as an all-rounder depends on his ability to improve his accuracy with the ball.
The former India wicket-keeper batsman noted that Reddy’s batting performance was promising despite being dismissed on the leg side and stressed the importance of continued support from the team management. “For him it will actually be a question of precision. I thought he hit it well, but it got caught on the leg and that’s never a good feeling.
I think if you continue to give him confidence, he can become a good all-rounder,” said Karthik. As far as the series is concerned, India currently leads 2-1 and the fourth match is scheduled to be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
