And as Glenn Phillips said, Eden Park could be the second most restful place in the world after Perth.
It also remains fresh: Auckland plays its home games at the Outer Oval. If the upswing is accompanied by movement, it will be a good start to the World Cup preparations for both teams. Both last played in the West Indies; India at home and New Zealand away.
India will really know where Rohit Sharma and to a lesser extent Virat Kohli stand with a view to a tournament a year from now that could be played on inflatable surfaces from early summer. New Zealand will find out if they can match the might of India after being dominated by the same team in their last two white-ball World Cup round of 16 encounters. Although New Zealand lost to India in the last ODI World Cup semi-final, they won the last bilateral ODI series between the two teams.
Even without the World Cup, it is the middle part of a rare full international tour these days. We have faced these two teams in five entertaining T20Is where the series came down to one or two missed catches despite India taking an unassailable 3-0 lead. The first three ODIs will be of higher intensity before some of the Test players from both sides prepare for the Tests.
New Zealand: LWWWL (last five ODIs completed, most recent first) India: LWWLL Two Test openers who developed into wicketkeepers to play ODI cricket. Keeping the wicket for 50 overs is not even half of it. But Tom Latham and KL Rahul are not charitable choices.
They were both excellent middle-order batsmen and were only used when the top order failed, which was usually only in difficult conditions. They hope to play long innings in this series to highlight their importance to their team. New Zealand (probable): 1 Will Young, 2 Tim Seifert/Henry Nicholls, 3 Daryl Mitchell, 4 Glenn Phillips, 5 Tom Latham (wk), 6 Michael Bracewell, 7 Mitchell Santner (ct), 8 Nathan Smith, 9 Kyle Jamieson, 10 Matt Henry/ Blair Tickner, 11 Jacob Duffy India are still missing their two big players in Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. But this is a good opportunity for Nitish Kumar Reddy to showcase his bowling articles in a long series.
Otherwise they are complete. Expect Shreyas Iyer to replace Ruturaj Gaikwad at number 1. Axar Patel is expected to return as a spinner who can strike.
The particular dimensions of Eden Park could make it difficult for Kuldeep Yadav to play, meaning India could potentially enter with three all-rounders. India (probable): 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 Shubman Gill (ct), 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Shreyas Iyer, 5 KL Rahul (wk), 6 Naman Dhir, 7 Nitish Kumar Reddy, 8 Axar Patel, 9 Gurnoor Brar, 10 Mohammed Siraj, 11 Arshdeep Singh. It won’t be the same pitch as the T20I, so hopefully there will be some balance between bat and ball. Expect good bounce as usual.
The weather is generally clear and should not interrupt play. “Land dimensions are always a consideration at Eden Park. Traditionally there is a little bounce, which as you know is good for tailors.
And the wind can be quite swirling, which can make finding ground quite difficult. “The dimensions of Eden Park are in the mind of Mitchell Santner “It’s the first time we’re playing this late, we’re playing at 3pm, so in the second innings when we’re bowling or batting I don’t know what the conditions will be and if you bowl at night with two new balls it’s possible there’s more swing, more bounce, more seam, so I find it very exciting to see how.” the weather works, how the wicket is played. Make no mistake! Arshdeep lacks a good length. Young turns to shoot but he gets a top edge and Iyer goes under it at square leg. It’s that Eden Park bounce and another New Zealand batsman is gone!

Tickner steps back again, Brar follows the moving batter with a lift. Tickner finds himself in an awkward position and can only push him back towards the goalkeeper. This time Tickner has a wry smile on his face – Iyer is not making a mistake!
