Naman Dhir once again showed his potential in the middle order while Tilak Varma further expanded his role as a finisher. Another player who has caught the attention is Nitish Kumar Reddy, whose all-round performance has impressed observers.

Subramaniam Badrinath assessed how these emerging talents are changing the makeup of the team. Taking to his YouTube channel, Badrinath stressed that the recent performances of Reddy and Dhir posed a major challenge to Shivam Dube’s prospects of returning to the XI. “I won’t say it’s the end of the road for him, given the possibility of injury for others.

But it will be very difficult for him to return to the starting lineup. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Naman Dhir largely fall into the same category. They bowl, bat and are excellent fielders.

“These two are multi-dimensional, especially in terms of their alignment,” Badrinath said on his YouTube channel. “Dube is now a bit one-dimensional. He can smash tops and give you two games of bowling.

And his fielding is poor. Fielding and fitness are areas where Dube takes a hit. So it will be difficult for him to get back into the eleven,” he added.

Dhir scored an unbeaten 42 off 15 balls in the first T20I and followed it up with a 31-run knock in the second T20I. His ability to contribute with both the bat and the ball has made him a valuable addition to the team. Meanwhile, Reddy also impressed with his all-round skills, scoring an unbeaten 26 off 13 balls while batting at number 8 in the third T20I and picking up a wicket in the same match.

“His (Naman Dhir’s) knock was underestimated in the second T20I. It hpened when the situation was difficult. Even Tilak Varma admitted this after the game.

And he plays spin too,” he said. New Zealand took the field for the third T20I at the Hutt Recreation Ground on October 27 without two of their strongest fast bowlers, Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson. The visitors led 2-0 in the series and needed to win to keep the competition alive.
