3 batter, was replaced by Jaker Ali as a concussion substitute after he sustained a head injury on the third day of the first Test against the West Indies in Dhaka. He injured himself shortly after lunch – in the 78th over of the West Indies’ first innings – while attemng a catch near the bat. Joshua Bishop, the batsman, defended Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s off-spin with heavy hands and sent the ball flying to the left of Mominul, the short-legged fielder.
Mominul lunged, caught the ball, but then lost control and fell on his stomach with his helmet. He was immediately removed from the field. Mominul suffered a “head trauma,” Bangladesh team physiotherist Bayjedul Islam Khan said recently.
“As he showed signs of concussion, he was replaced by Jaker Ali Anik for the remainder of the game.” Later, when Bangladesh lost their third wicket in the second innings, Jaker was seen batting and had to make his way to middle soon after when ctain Najmul Hossain Shanto fell to Roston Chase and became the third wicket of the West Indies ctain’s innings. Jaker had only just begun when the rain stopped and tea was drunk early. Shanto had reached Mominul’s usual number.
For Jaker it is a return to Test cricket after 16 months – his last Test pearance came against Sri Lanka in June 2025. He too had his work cut out for him as Bangladesh won by 34 for 4 in the second innings by a margin of just 61 runs.
