Court, Nisshin, October 3, 2026 Sri Lanka 165 for 9 (Ratnayake 65, Arachchige 33, Mahedi 2-19, Saif 2-28, Mustafizur 2-43) beat Bangladesh 102 (Nasum 26, Sahan 2-17, Thurshara 2-18, Ratnayake 2-18, Vijayskanth 2-26) with 63 runs. Tharindu Ratnayake’s outstanding all-round performance led Sri Lanka to a podium finish in the Men’s Asian Games, giving them the bronze medal after a comprehensive 63-run win over Bangladesh.
Ratnayake’s quick 65 brought Sri Lanka back to life after a first-class swing and then he took two wickets as Bangladesh crashed to 102 in 17.3 overs. Ratnayake, who is best known for his two-handed bowling, hit five sixes and seven fours during his 32-ball spell, including a 93-run six-wicket stand in just 46 balls with his team Sahan Arachchige. It was a well-deserved performance after Sri Lanka’s top four managed single-digit scores.
Sri Lanka’s top spot began where it ended in the semi-final against India. Sineth Jayawardena missed a slipping throw from Mahedi Hasan in the third over and Lasith Croospulle scored at mid-on later in the same over. Nuwanido Fernando became Aliss Al Islam’s first T20I wicket when he was caught for one, although replays showed he missed the ball completely.
The situation was made even worse when Sohan de Livera was knocked out while trying to complete a second round later in the same period. After just four overs, Sri Lanka were 21 for 4. Their top four had totaled just 27 points in two games, 15 of which came from Nuwanidu against India.
Arachchige kept his team afloat from first place. 5 and rebuilt a fifth wicket stand worth 33 runs with Ashen Bandara. But it was Ratnayake who completely changed the face of the game.
He started with a switch-hit six off Saif Hassan before attacking the struggling Mustafizur Rahman, who scored 25 runs in his first over, including seven wides, two no-balls, two fours and a six slammed over midwicket. Mustafizur had conceded 23 runs in his last over against Pakistan in the semi-final but it was his most expensive run in a T20I. Ratnayake now had the momentum and hit Rishad Hossain for a reverse six in the next over which lasted 16 runs.
Aliss, who had been playing strongly until then, scored 11 in the 16th over, allowing Ratnayake to once again take him to point. Mustafizur continued to rattle off runs at the other end before Ratnayake tore Rishad art in the 18th over. The first six of the over added to his 26-ball half-century before Ratnayake hit two fours and a six with conventional leg shots.
The over ended with Parvez Hossain dropping Emon Ratnayake. Sri Lanka managed 64 runs in the last five overs. Sri Lanka continued their batting momentum with the ball in hand.
Nuwan Thurshara provided Saif with good work for five deliveries before getting his outside edge on the last ball of the first over. Ratnayake then also contributed some important hits with the new ball. Tanzid Hasan went deep before his off-break before Towhid Hridoy, Bangladesh’s best batsman, was similarly brought down on left-arm spin.
Between the two, Thurshara’s yorker had the number of Litton Das. Vijayakanth Viyaskanth had caught Emon for the 22nd time, although the replay showed he had missed the ball from distance. Mahedi received the next ball fiercely before Wanuja Sahan fended off a sharp return from Rishad Hossain and then pushed the ball through Yasir Ali.
Nasum Ahmed struck the ball around to finish on 26, before falling to ctain Arachchige in the 18th over. Bangladesh struggled with the bat after Tharindu Ratnayake smashed 65 in 32 balls, taking Sri Lanka to a solid score of 165 for 9. Sri Lankans celebrate after winning the bronze medal, Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, Men’s Asian Games, 3rd Place Playoff, Nisshin, October 3, 2026 Second over for Mahedi! Croospulle moves, but doesn’t quite get to the ground.
Still tries the loft drive, but ends up just cutting it clean as Yasir Ali gets an easy take in the middle of Bang! completes! It was a simple Mahedi trick, just a straight arrow with the arm. Sineth makes room to the side to cut this off but is beaten by one that slips as his stumps are disturbed. And Sri Lanka’s poor run since the last game continues!
It was a long ball tucked into square leg but they opted for a risky second ball as back square leg came in and lobbed a low throw to the striker’s side. Litton still has a lot of work to do to recover and break the stumps, but despite a full dive from the batsman, he is clearly undersized. A first international wicket for Aliss! But oh my God, this is a very bad decision, it has to be said.
Big leg break as Nuwanidu hooks a bat and misses. Litton immediately goes behind the stumps, which seems to influence the umpire. But there was a clear view between bat and ball on the matter.
Nuwanidu leaves, looking quite confused. No DRS here, remember Castled! Full on and Sahan misses the swing as it slips under the bat.
He continues his arm and hits the off-stump. End of a very important stabilization movement by the skipper top edge and off we go! It was a good length ball as Bandara looks to push that momentum through mid-wicket.
But this one grabs, turns away and grabs the top edge. Well thought out catch as the square leg moves to the left and grabs hold of the leg that swirled in the wind and fell over his shoulder. Bandara is angry with himself and swings his bat as he walks away – he had done all the hard work to get to this difficult surface. And this time it worked!
An absolutely magnificent move comes to an end and it’s Fizz who makes the breakthrough. It sounded loud and flat, trying to provide additional cover. But the man there, Rishad Hossain, would do well to hold on to this one.
This hpened to him pretty quickly, watch out, The Fizz has a second! He tries to get the long handle but goes under the length cutter and can only find the fielder from a long distance. And now he’s gone! He looks for a big leg swing down again but misses a right.
This one kept low too Bang! It was a simple Mahedi trick, just a straight arrow with the arm. Sineth creates space on the side to block this one but is beaten by one that slips as his stumps are destroyed. Second from the end for Mahedi!

What a great start for SL. The bowler saw the batsman rushing towards him and cut him off the length. Saif tried to deflect the ball from outside but a slight edge from his leading edge was safely carried towards the goalkeeper.
