Seam-bowling allrounder Chamindu Wickramasinghe has also been named, as has batter Sahan Arachchige , while seamer Binura Fernando makes a return.

Batsman Charith Asalanka, fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka, ambidextrous spinner Tharindu Rathnayake and batting all-rounder Zenith Liyanage were dropped from the team. Fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera was included in the squad, but his participation is dependent on fitness. Others, such as Wickramasinghe, Arachchige, and Viyaskanth have earned their call-ups through years of performance at domestic level.

Each of these players have previously featured in T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka, but with the national team having had little success in the format in 2026, this inclusion represents the best opportunity yet for them to embed themselves in the team. The three T20 matches to be played in Rawalpindi will start from October 9.
