His views come weeks after Farbrace decided to take on the role of full-time director of cricket in Lancashire. Farbrace was due to move to Hove after four seasons as head coach following cost-cutting measures imposed by the ECB, with Matt Walker – also from Warwickshire – set to take charge of the first team. Robinson’s career at Hove began as a player, then he returned to succeed Peter Moores as head coach and oversaw two consecutive league title wins in 2006 and 2007.
He then took charge of the England women’s team in 2015 and oversaw their success at the 2017 World Cup. “I’m delighted to be back at Hove and playing my part in ensuring that Sussex remains one of the most respected clubs in the country,” said Robinson. “We suffered some serious setbacks last year and as a club we still have a lot to do and I am determined to contribute to a bright future here at Sussex.”
“I first joined this club in 1997, just after the revolution, after losing most of its experienced players and some of its players. I was just a small building block that helped build an era of unqualified success. Trophies were won and English players and coaches were produced.
“The flexibility of my role also allows me to always be present at BACA. Many of our cricket students come from all over the county and show great commitment. Some leave as early as 6:30 a.m., many take two trains to get to school and make their dreams come true. It is lovely and means a lot to me to be able to continue to influence the next generation of cricketers, both men and women, both at school and in Sussex. Paterson said: “Mark knows Sussex cricket inside and out, having successfully played and coached here for over 15 years, including winning the County Championship twice.
“Mark has a fantastic understanding of our journey and the cricketers at BACA and he will continue to provide the most talented players with an excellent transition to Sussex cricket. I am delighted that Mark is supporting all of our teams and coaches with his invaluable expertise. I can’t think of a better person than our director of cricket. “Mark Robinson left the England Women’s post after Ashes 2019, England v Australia, Women’s Test only, Taunton, Day 2, 19 July 2019.
