Australia (T20 team) Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Mahli Beardman, Nikhil Chaudhary, Tim David, Joel Davies, Jack Edwards, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sam Harper, Spencer Johnson, Mitchell Owen, Lachlan Shaw, Adam Zampa. Western Australia and Perth Scorchers fast bowler Mahli Beardman returns to international cricket after an injury spell with both teams and made an impressive comeback for Australia A during the recent India tour. Jack Edwards was rewarded with a place in both teams for his impressive recent tour of South Africa and his consistent performances in domestic cricket.

Left-arm quick Spencer Johnson and all-rounder Liam Scott return to the ODI squad. Nathan Ellis did not recover in time for the ODI series as he was returning from a secondary strain. Hard-hitting opener Jake Fraser-McGurk has reclaimed a place in Australia’s T20 squad for the first time since 2025.

Promising young New South Wales batter Lachlan Shaw joins the T20 squad for the first time having impressed on the recent Australia A tour to India and in the BBL. The ODI team continues to prepare for next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, while the T20 unit has a longer-term goal: the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the T20 World Cup. George Bailey, Chairman of Selectors, said: “These ODI and T20 matches provide a great opportunity for several players, many of whom have had opportunities on recent tours, to further demonstrate their skills against very strong opposition.”

“Liam Scott returns to the ODI team and we are pleased to see him learning from every opportunity and we have seen him develop his game with strong performances over the last 12 to 18 months. “Mahli Beardman’s recent performances for Australia A have been impressive and we are incredibly excited about her return to the national team in both the ODI and T20 formats. We believe he can continue to develop into an all-format player in the coming years.

“Lachie Shaw is a very talented cricketer who we also believe will develop quickly and has a strong game that will make an impact in the T20 format. “Sam Harper has had some strong performances in domestic cricket. He is currently in a great position with his game and is consistently implementing his style of cricket across all formats.

“Jake (Fraser-McGurk) and Mitch (Owen) return to the T20 side and we believe their ball striking can make a difference in the shorter formats. “These are good examples of players who were given a chance at international level and continued to work on their game based on what they learned from those experiences.”     With the home Test series against New Zealand following, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will take a short break after the Qantas Tour of South Africa and begin preparing for ten consecutive Test matches at home and in India. Likewise, Travis Head, Matthew Renshaw, Josh Inglis, Cooper Connolly and Cameron Green will be T20 series ctains after long tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa as they prepare for the New Zealand series, immediately followed by five Test matches in India.

Bailey said: “We are in the middle of a very challenging phase of our schedule. “Our multi-format players move straight from a tour of South Africa into an ODI and T20 series, leaving a tight window to ensure the team is physically prepared and fresh for the upcoming Test series in New Zealand. “The team will then travel over 100 days from the Test players gathering in Perth to the conclusion of the 150th anniversary Test against England.

“To manage this workload, each player’s preparation for the New Zealand series will be carefully planned and focused on each player’s physical and mental preparation.”
