On 22 December 2026, Simon Cook resigned as Kent’s director of cricket immediately following the club’s promotion to the County Championship Premier Division. Cook said he plans to return to his “greatest passion” and is seeking a “more hands-on role” as a coach.
He will be involved in the recruiting process and handover to a successor, and Kent recently mentioned that while they were “understandably dispointed” to lose Cook, they respected his decision. “Heading the cricket department at Kent has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” said Cook, who played for the club from 2005 to 2012 before becoming bowling coach. “I really enjoyed my time at the club and am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together in the men’s, women’s and talent areas.
“It was also a privilege to be part of the development of the professional team. They are extremely talented and are in the prime of their careers, which will set them up for a strong period of success… The club is now in a position to move beyond mere competition and hopes to challenge for honors in all formats. “Cook doesn’t have a next job lined up yet. “While I don’t know exactly what the next project will look like, I’m excited about the possibilities that could lie ahead,” he added.
“I leave with great pride in what I have achieved and look forward to seeing many more Kent players representing Kent and England in the future.” Kent added that Lucy Arman, the head of women’s cricket, will also step down from her role. Kent, who plays in the semi-professional Tier 2 women’s county team, finished third in the T20 Blast this year and reached the semi-finals of the One-Day Cup. The club said Arman had worked “tirelessly” for two years to raise standards.
“The first two years of Tier 2 cricket have certainly been a rollercoaster of emotions, but they have also been a huge learning experience for everyone,” said Arman. “I am particularly proud of the foundations we have built within the Kent women’s team and talent pipeline.” Kent CEO Michael Wilshaw said: “Simon and Lucy have worked extremely hard and achieved significant achievements to develop a long-term strategy for men’s and women’s cricket in Kent that will benefit the club in the long term.” “We fully respect their decisions and will work closely with both to ensure a smooth transition through 2027.”
This is a significant change for us and will provide the new leaders of our professional cricket department with a solid foundation on which to build as they plan for the future. ” Cook (right) and Adam Hollioake oversaw Kent’s promotion. • Gareth Fuller/PA Images via
