The ICC confirmed in a press release on October 28, 2026 that Rauf had breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, a provision that relates to conduct contrary to the spirit of the game. As a result, a demerit point was added to his disciplinary record.
Importantly, this was his third offense in 24 months, bringing his total demerit points to five. The incident occurred at the end of Pakistan’s 46th over. Positioned at the non-striker’s end, Rauf pealed for a wide and subsequently became involved in a heated argument with England all-rounder Will Jacks.
Rauf raised his racket and persisted with the rally even after field umpire Sharfuddula Ibne Shahid intervened with a warning. He then scurried past the referee and continued toward Jacks, which formed the basis for the formal accusation. The allegations were made by field umpires Rashid Riaz and Sharfuddula, third umpire Wayne Knights and fourth umpire Nassir Hussain.
Rauf accepted the sanction suggested by match referee Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Match Referee Panel and therefore no formal hearing was required. What did England’s excessive offense involve? Meanwhile, England also faced disciplinary consequences arising from the same game.
The tourists were deprived of 15 per cent of their match fees after falling three overs short of the required target after all allowed times were taken into account. According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers violations of the minimum overrun, any team that fails to play its entire pitch within the allotted time will face a fine of five percent per overrun. England ctain Harry Brook admitted the offense on behalf of his team and accepted the punishment suggested by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC’s elite panel of referees, meaning no formal hearing was required.
As in Rauf’s case, the matter was resolved without convening a disciplinary tribunal. What was the result of the game and what hpens next for Pakistan? The disciplinary hearing was followed by a thrilling ODI which Pakistan won by one wicket.
Shadab Khan recorded an unbeaten century and shared an unbroken 89-run partnership with Rauf for the 10th wicket, taking Pakistan to the target with 17 balls remaining. The England bowlers failed to separate the two as the hosts staged a remarkable comeback, largely outplaying them in the closing stages. After this win, Pakistan secured their place in the final of the three ODI series where they are scheduled to face Sri Lanka on October 31, 2026.
