The Indian batsman was dropped three times during her innings but converted the opportunity into a match-winning performance.
Dee Sharma remained unbeaten with 106 off 86 balls and also hit 15 boundaries as the hosts posted an impressive tally. Harmanpreet’s century marked her eighth ODI hundred, putting her ahead of Mithali Raj on India’s all-time list. Smriti Mandhana tops the list with 14 ODI centuries, followed by Harmanpreet with 8 and Mithali Raj with 7.
India lost Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma in three overs, but Harmanpreet and Pratika Rawal steadied the innings with a 124-run partnership for the third wicket. Pratika scored 61 off 67 balls, laying the foundation for India’s recovery. Harmanpreet then added 153 for the fifth wicket with Dee Sharma, whose aggressive batting in the final over proved crucial.
The milestone came in India’s 41st innings. Harmanpreet reflected on the difficult batting environment and the early loss of two key openers. The pitch was not functioning properly and the transition from night cricket to day games increased the difficulty.
“It wasn’t easy conditions. We play a lot of night games these days. After playing for a long time in the sun and under difficult conditions.
After losing two wickets, Pratika and I had a very good partnership and then Dee did some magic on the field,” Harmanpreet told broadcasters during the innings break. “It wasn’t a true wicket. Initially was holding a bit.
The idea was to keep hitting you and holding you down. That gave us the result today. I just want to have fun on the field.
The key is to keep hitting and keep having fun. The good thing is that I hit the ball well,” she said. Harmanpreet termed her partnership with Pratika Rawal as a turning point in India’s innings.
Both batters had a clear plan to rebuild after the early wickets, with Harmanpreet taking responsibility for scoring while Pratika rotated the strike effectively. “At first they played well and hit good areas. Pratika and I had good communication about the need to build our innings.
We have to look at which balls we have to take care of and which balls we have to respect. This partnership gave us the confidence to build the innings,” said Harmanpreet. “If someone just comes in and sets boundaries, your job is to take one and keep hitting.
It’s nice to see that she has taken responsibility and it’s good to watch her from the other side,” she added.
