[WATCH] Harmanpreet Kaur-Smriti Mandhana’s ‘No handshake’ video goes viral after win against Zimbabwe (Source: BCCI) India sealed the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe 3-0, but something else caught everyone’s attention in Vadodara. The Women in Blue defeated the visitors by eight wickets in the third game. During the post-match handshake, former ctain Harmanpreet Kaur and current ctain Smriti Mandhana had a brief exchange that became a trend online.
As Harmanpreet walked towards his teammate, Mandhana looked in a different direction. Both men missed the handshake that got people talking. The moment was brief and there is no clear evidence that it reflected the tension between the two players.
Recently, Harmanpreet handed over his post to Mandhana after winning the gold medal at the Asian Games. The Zimbabwe series is Mandhana’s first outing where she has comfortably won both the ODI and T20I stages. In the T20Is, Harmanpreet scored 92 runs in two innings at a strike rate of 204.44 and in the ODIs she scored 126 runs in an innings. The middle-order batsman scored brilliantly in the second ODI and led the unit to set a fighting total. Meanwhile, Mandhana is not at her best in the ODI series but in the T20Is she scored 56 runs in two innings.
In total, Harmanpreet has recorded over 8,000 runs across all formats, including nine centuries. On the other hand, Mandhana has scored over 9,000 runs across all formats with 18 hundreds consistently leading the team to the top. His role is new and all eyes will be on his ability to provide both batting and control for the Indian team. Mandhana’s next assignment will be a tour of South Africa where she will oversee an all-format series.
India will play Only Test on December 9, followed by three ODIs and three T20Is. Before the only Test, they will play a tour game against South Africa’s emerging players at Willowmoore Park, Benoni, on December 6.
