“In T20 cricket, this is the best margin we have ever seen. We could have easily been on the winning side in both games but we weren’t,” Walter said as he landed in Wellington ahead of the third T20I on Sunday. “You probably missed a few chances every time that would probably have won the game for us.
It’s a little dispointing, but we’re also very hpy with the way we played. “We didn’t play much competitive cricket before the team series [New Zealand last played an ODI series in the West Indies in July]. And actually I feel like we played pretty well in probably 80% of every game.
We just couldn’t put the finishing touches on it every time, which is dispointing. But there is still so much good that can be taken from the two games so far.” New Zealand failed to defend 180 in the second game after failing to defend 225 in the first game. Walter said “the pitch has changed a bit between games” and the quality of bowling has also improved.
“The conditions are always different, even if the day is the same. “The surface was a little different,” Walter said. “The start of the game is different.
Nothing ever turns out exactly the same. From a batting perspective it’s definitely a little trickier, and that’s reflected in the results. The bowling units at both ends also probably played a little better than the night before and learned some lessons from that. “While Matt Henry will be absent for the remaining three T20Is, Kyle Jamieson and Matt Fisher (on the front page) will only be available for the third T20I.
Lockie Ferguson was withdrawn from the third T20I but Ferguson and Josh Clarkson will feature in the fourth and fifth T20Is. The quicks available for the remaining three games are Adam Milne, Blair Tickner, Jacob Duffy and Nathan Smith. “Blair Tickner will join us, [and] Matt Fisher will accompany us as we try to move the process forward; it’s not a perfect science,” Walter said.
“But we do our best to give everyone a chance to prepare, but we also do our best when they walk through the park. I hope it works out for us.” NZ vs Ind – New Zealand coach Rob Walter was dispointed when New Zealand failed to citalize on their chances in the first two T20Is.
