There are eight teams taking part in the NPL and it will take place from October 26th to November 21st this year. A number of Pakistani players who will take part in the tournament are already in Kathmandu where the matches are scheduled to take place. Others who were about to travel reportedly delayed their plans until the issue was resolved.
It is not yet clear whether the tax became the sticking point or whether it was demanded. The CCP did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The NPL players include Pakistan T20 side Sahibzada Farhan, Haider Ali, Hunain Shah, Hussain Talat, Iftikhar Ahmed, Hasan Ali and Usama Mir.
None of the players are part of a Pakistan team that clashes with the NPL dates. Earlier this year, the PCB announced a new centralized contract structure that clearly differentiates between white-ball and red-ball cricket. It covered the so-called D-format track, with players in this category being referred to as T20 specialists.
In theory, this gave these players the freedom to play in as many T20 leagues as they wanted, provided they did not violate the international obligations imposed on them by the PCB. While the PCB has not publicly stated which stream a Pakistan player falls under or whether the new structure has even come into effect, none of the players involved in this year’s NPL are currently part of Pakistan’s ODI or Test schedules.
